Getting Started with AI: The Real Story Behind GetPrompting
Ever had that moment where you think: “I know AI can help me, but I have no idea where to start”? Yeah, me too. That’s actually how I ended up getting started with AI prompts, and eventually launching GetPrompting.
It started as a personal experiment. I was juggling a full-time job, school, and a long list of “someday” projects. I didn’t need another tool, I needed results. I wanted to know how to turn AI into a real productivity booster, not just a curiosity. So I asked one question:
What’s the smallest, most useful thing I can do with AI today?
And that one question led to another. And another. And eventually… a whole system.
From Curiosity to Workflow
GetPrompting didn’t launch with grand ambitions or a flashy product. It started with a Google Doc and a single workflow:
“Break this big task into smaller steps I can actually start today.”
That prompt saved me hours, and got me unstuck.
So I shared it. Then I wrote a few more. Before long, I was sending out a little newsletter each week with helpful prompts, experiments, and simple ways people could start getting results from AI, even if they were just getting started with AI prompts.

The Real Problem We’re Solving
A lot of people are sold the idea that AI will “automate everything.” But what most of us actually need is a way to:
So we started solving that. Not with some magic formula, but with small, useful prompts that anyone can try
A Real-World Example
Let’s say you’re trying to launch a project (a podcast, a product, a course, doesn’t matter). You keep putting it off because it feels too big. Here’s what I do:
Prompt: “Break this goal into 3 phases, then list 5 small tasks I could do for phase one. Keep it simple and time-limited.”
The result?
- Phase 1: Plan it
- Write a 1-line description
- Brainstorm 3 episode ideas
- Make a list of tools I already have
- Ask AI to draft a title format
- Block 30 minutes this weekend to start
Suddenly? You’re in motion. That’s the power of getting started with AI prompts and using them to solve your everyday problems.
Why This Matters (and Why I’m Still Doing It)
The real mission behind GetPrompting isn’t to teach you “how to use AI.” It’s to help you get unstuck. To make progress. To feel like you’re actually doing the thing not just reading another thread about it.
And yeah, maybe to enjoy the process a little, too. 😊
If you’re reading this and feeling even a little overwhelmed by all the AI hype, know this:
You don’t need to master AI. You just need a good question.
We’re here to help you ask better ones.
